Bruce Hasenyager came to Al-Anon the way most of us do — not looking for a program, but looking for relief. After decades of living in the shadow of other people's addiction and chaos, he found his way into a meeting, and what he discovered there changed everything.

His path wasn't simple. A successful career in software, consulting, finance, and academia coexisted for years with an emotional and spiritual life in disorder. Two marriages to alcoholic women. Relationships damaged. Children affected. A pattern repeated long past the point where he could pretend not to see it.

Then the Steps. And, gradually, the miracle.

Bruce has spent the decade since his Al-Anon recovery trying to understand not just what happened to him, but why it worked — and how to help others find the same relief. That inquiry produced three books.

Bird Feet in Concrete (2015) is a daily meditation book for thoughtful Twelve Step seekers — 366 meditations that go beyond the usual program literature to meet people where the Steps are actually lived.

Bird Feet and the Twelve Steps (2017) tells Bruce's personal story of recovery and offers a searching, intellectually honest look at what the Steps mean, how they work, and where they can take you.

Daily Thoughts & Meditations (2020) broadens the circle further — a daily reader for anyone on the path from chaos to a good life, regardless of their particular program or belief system.

Bruce and his wife Rosi live in Plano, Texas. Together, they have read to each other from daily readers every morning for over twenty years — and then they make breakfast, walk the dog, and start living their good life.
